Love Is . . .

Ms. Day is a sucker for romance. She'll laugh and she'll cry at any ol' rom-com, she believes in love at first sight, and she thinks candlelit dinners and walks on the beach are everything they appear to be on the silver screen. But even to this hopeless romantic, some of these typical gestures feel tired, and she's always looking for new ways to add some passion and sweetness into the mix. So naturally, she was thrilled to learn about the Moonlight Paddleboat Picnics for Two happening every Thursday at the Boathouse in Forest Park (314-367-2224 or For $32 per person, you and your swoopy-swoopy can settle in for a two-hour paddle (from around 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.) with a picnic basket filled to the brim with eats and wine — breath mints not included (wink, wink!). The dreamy nights on the water run through September 24 (the fullest moon we'll get is on Thursday, September 3), and reservations are taken over the phone.
