Marriage Rites

A February wedding is unusual, but the Spectacular Wed-tacular is not your typical wedding. For starters, you're invited, even if you don't know the bride or the groom. That's because the bride is noted pyromaniac/burlesque star Sturdy Gurlesque, and she wants her wedding day to be a memorable celebration. To that end she's invited sister-in-garters Lola van Ella to organize a three-ring circus for the evening's entertainment. Clownvis Presley will be there, Lola and the Bon-Bons will be doing their burlesque thing, and the Trip Daddys will be working as the wedding band and as the third ring of the circus. Mad Art Gallery (2727 South Twelfth Street; 314-771-8230 or www.madart.com) is serving as the venue and also hosting a celebratory art show in Sturdy's honor, The Madness of Love, a show that explores the theme of true love through the artistic talents of Tomahawk Productions (Tom Huck and Josh Rowan), Bradley Pipkin and Ron Buechele. Tickets for this early candidate for wedding of the year are $15, and that covers the cost of your slice of wedding cake and your PBR, which you'll need for the bride and groom's PBR toast. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Booze, burlesque, rockabilly and fire may just replace "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue" when this one is done.
