Miracle on 34th Street

George Seaton's holiday classic Miracle on 34th Street stars an eight-year-old Natalie Wood as Susan Walker, a girl who believes that the Santa at Macy's is the real deal. Surprisingly, so does he. A magnificently bearded Edmund Gwenn made millions of hearts grow four sizes larger with his portrayal of Kris Kringle, who soon has psychiatrists and lawyers starting to believe his claim. The film ends with a protracted court case in which Kringle wins over the jury, most of the courtroom and the city of New York -- even the judge has to admit to reasonable doubt. The Webster Film Series screens Miracle on 34th Street as an early Christmas gift.
