The 21st century is twelve years old now, but most of the time those years feel like mere weeks. So much change, so quickly. How does a playwright register the warp-speed velocity of the zeitgeist within his own work? Paul Rudnick accomplishes this task using the dependable vehicle of comedy in The New Century. The play is comprised of several vignettes, each of which charts issues of inclusion and tolerance within the greater LGBT community in this particularly challenging -- but promising -- age. The New Century opens tonight, May 10, at the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City; 314-725-6555 or www.cocastl.org) with an 8 p.m. performance. The production runs through May 20, and tickets are $15 to $30.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: May 10. Continues through May 20, 2012
