Not Just Horsin' Around

Raising money, playing polo

Sep 10, 2008 at 4:00 am
Even though we all wear Polo shirts, we view that sport as an upper-echelon one reserved for royalty or, at the very least, private-school-educated folks. But everyone is welcome to learn about polo, and you should start by watching a live match. You'll have a chance to do so today, as mallet-toting people on horseback from St. Louis Benefit Polo gather at Spirit Valley Farms' polo field (17899 Wild Horse Creek Road, Chesterfield) to raise money for Therapeutic Horsemanship, a nonprofit equestrian-therapy program. Gates open at 3 p.m., and the match starts at 4 p.m. Car passes cost $20 for lawn seating, or sit in the VIP viewing tent for $75. Kids can hang out at the children's activity tent for $25, where they will be given snacks and beverages. For more information about the event or the nonprofit, call 636-332-4940 or visit www.thstl.org.
