Of all the world's conflicts perhaps none is more entrenched in complexity and tragedy than the one between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Palestinian filmmaker Hany Abu-Assad drops one young man in the thick of it with his thriller Omar. Omar is arrested by the Israelis in the wake of the murder of an Israeli soldier and pressured into becoming an informant. He has to navigate both worlds carefully now: Does he give false information to his handler to keep his friends safe at great risk to himself, or will his self-preservation kick in and force him to betray his own people? The Webster Film Series screens Omar and co-presents a panel discussion following the film.
