Play Hooky, Then Play Ball

After a brutal winter and chilly spring, there's only one thing that can get the blood pumping: the St. Louis Cardinals home opener. Today's the day, and you can bet your Lou Brock jersey the game's sold out. But that doesn't mean you can't still participate in the civic rite of spring. The official opening-day pep rally takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Kiener Plaza (Seventh and Market streets), and it features live music from My Friend Mike, food and drinks, and tons of Cardinals-related giveaways. Admission to the rally is free. Game time is 3:15 p.m., so plan your day accordingly -- maybe call in sick on Sunday night this year, just to change it up. Not that it matters -- your boss has already taken the day off.
