Even if you're not the kind of person who enjoys driving your body to the extreme in the summer heat, you can still come out and watch others who do. New Town St. Charles hosts the
Big Shark New Town Triathlon on Saturday and Sunday (July 9 and 10), which includes a new kids race this year. The kids triathlon takes place on Saturday, and Sunday is devoted to the adult competition. Participants involved in the adult event will be required to swim just under two-thirds of a mile, bike twenty miles and run four miles. If you want to attempt the triathlon yourself, there is a $75 entry fee for adults and $45 for kids. If putting together a relay team is more of your thing, the fee is $90; USAT licenses are required for all participants. Prize money will be rewarded during the closing ceremony on Sunday to the top three participants in each age group. The event is free to watch, and check in and packet pick-ups take place at the New Town Amphitheater (New Town Lake Drive and Civic Circle Drive, St. Charles).
