This deluxe celebration takes place along historic Main Street in downtown St. Charles (230 South Main Street, St. Charles; 800-366-2427 or www.stcharleschristmas.com), where the quaintness and sturdy charm of the very old buildings and homes, and the even sturdier brick-surfaced street itself, provides a hand-in-glove fit with the nostalgic vibe that Christmas exudes. The outdoor festival includes costumed characters, wandering carolers, photos with Santa, and late-night shopping and dining. You can experience the tradition 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday through Sunday, December 22, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24.
