Secrets of St. Louis — Revealed!

Today's the day that the St. Louis metro area discloses some secrets — not secrets à la Late Night with Conan O'Brien (though a STL tidbit like Slash's "I once asked Axl why he left the 'E' off his name. He started crying and said he thought he'd spelled it right" would be notable). Instead, these are the Secret Gardens of Webster Groves and the secret interiors of homes on the Southwest Garden Neighborhood Home Improvement & Garden Tour. To get a look at the seven hidden spots in Webster, visit the community from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets for the garden tour cost $12 to $15 and are available at Rolling Ridge Nursery & Garden Center, among other locations; call 314-968-1757 for more information.

As for the secrets in the city, the Southwest Garden Neighborhood Association reveals them — like the mysterious interior of the Columbia Foundation for the Arts. This structure, located at 5333 Columbia Avenue, has been a vaudeville theater and a racquet club, and is now a residence, greenhouse, art gallery and more. See this remarkable transformation and other rehabs and new homes in the area from noon to 4 p.m. Purchase your tickets ($8 to $10) at Hanneke Hardware (5390 Southwest Avenue). For more information call 314-772-6082.
