Jane Eyre, the protagonist of Charlotte Brontë's classic novel of the same name, proves she is resilient, independent, sharp and, perhaps most important, eternally relatable. After all, the book was first published in 1847, and still literature classes and book clubs pore over it, and inspired devotees interpret the beloved work for television programs, fan fiction, movies and more. This weekend at Washington University's Edison Theatre (6445 Forsyth Boulevard; www.edison.wustl.edu), some of that "and more" will be artfully presented, thanks to Counter-Balance Theatre, a new physical-theater company from the University of California, Irvine. In the group's interpretation of Jane Eyre, seven performers weave contemporary motion into the timeless story, while they play a variety of characters, from people to animals and even furniture.
