The Saint Louis Art Museum (314-721-0072 or
www.slam.org) features a new exhibit in Gallery 321 this spring to accompany the rush of activity that follows winter.
Photography on the Street, a collection of photographs made by American and European photographers between the 1930s and the 1970s, isolates snippets of the busy and dense urban landscape for closer observation. Captured during the transitory moments of city life, the subjects of the works are held in stasis, the frame of the lens separating their environment from their lives. Artists who have work in the exhibit include Roger Mayne (that's his
Girl Jiving, Southam Street, pictured), Dorothea Lange and famed crime-scene photographer Weegee (Arthur Felig).
Photography on the Street opens Friday, March 13, and remains up through Sunday, June 7. The Saint Louis Art Museum is open every day except Monday; admission is free.
