Shots of the Century

Few of us contemplate how to best celebrate our hundredth birthday -- cake, I guess? -- but the staff of the Sheldon made plans well in advance. With the venerable building's centennial approaching, a quartet of local photographers was commissioned to each create a body of work centered on the Sheldon's concerts, exhibitions, fundraisers and even the structure itself. The resulting exhibition -- The Sheldon: 100 Moments -- Photographs by Ray Marklin, Odell Mitchell, Jr., Kathleen M. Sanker and Jennifer Silverberg -- demonstrates the vital role the Sheldon plays in St. Louis' cultural health. (Full disclosure: Jennifer Silverberg is godmother to all my kitties.) The Sheldon: 100 Moments opens with a free reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 22. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, and the show remains up through Saturday, May 4. Admission is free.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Feb. 22. Continues through May 4, 2013
