There's a lonely gay man out there in the naked city, and tonight he contemplates what the police will think if they find his dead body -- judging from his solitude and boring apartment, foul play can be ruled out, he assures himself. Mark Campbell's song cycle, Songs from an Unmade Bed, is rife with the wry observations of a witty and optimistic man who keeps searching for love, despite the occasional setback and emotional bruising. Each of the eighteen songs features music by a different composer, among them Jenny Giering (composer of The Mistress Cycle) and Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakenings), with Campbell's lyrics unifying the piece and directing the thrust. Citilites Theatre presents Songs from an Unmade Bed at 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday (July 8 through 23), with two Sunday matinees (July 10 and 17) at the Gaslight Theater (358 North Boyle Avenue; 314-773-1879 or www.citilitestheatre.com; $15). The show serves as an aperitif to the company's production of The Crumple Zone.
