Sip on Some Science

Wine goes to the lab

The Saint Louis Science Center's Science Uncorked wine event has you confused. You don't think that wine and science go together at all — and that's where you'd be wrong. Let's first consider the wine bottle, shall we? It's made of glass, it's more narrow at the top than at the bottom, and it's used to hold liquids. Not unlike a science lab's beaker, right? And what about fermentation? There has to be some science going on to get those grapes to transform into such a yummy, yummy adult beverage! And your taste buds — just try to explain how those guys work without using science! See, there are many links between wine and science, and you can explore them all from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Science Center's James S. McDonnell Planetarium (5050 Oakland Avenue). Admission to the event costs $40, and you can purchase your tickets by calling 314-289-4424 or visiting www.slsc.org.
