Sleepwalk With Him

Anyone will tell you that comedian Mike Birbiglia is a funny guy (as that's the nature of the profession). But what sets him apart from shock artists and rape-joke provocateurs is his poignant approach, which reveals a complex layer of underlying drama. After all, he is a frequent guest on Ira Glass' hour of thoughtful introspection, This American Life. Just weeks before his new film, Sleepwalk With Me, premieres at the Tivoli Theatre on September 14, Birbiglia brings his warm and fuzzy take on sarcasm to the Pageant (6161 Delmar Boulevard; 314-726-6161) to benefit St. Louis Area Foodbank. All the usual comedic barbs against marriage and other easily mocked institutions are there, but Birbiglia's light touch and underlying fondness provide a relatable, endearing and still hilarious perspective. Local funny-guy Greg Warren opens the show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online through www.thepageant.com.
