Son of a Beach

Imagine babes in bikinis, a poolside bar, white sand between your toes and a frosty bottle of beer chilling in your hand. With the recent hot and humid-as-hell climate conditions, it’s hard to believe that this fantasy could take place in this land-locked city; however, the Corona Light Extreme Volleyball Professionals City vs. City Tour at the Jamestown Sports Complex (5105 North Highway 67, Florissant; 314-355-5363 or simulates a day at the beach smack-dab in the middle of this Midwest summer heat streak. Sixteen two-person professional beach volleyball teams, including four or five local teams, scramble their way across nine-hundred square feet of sand in pursuit of cash prizes and the season title. Spectators can rack up their sports skills and loot, too: Free clinics with the pros are available in addition to prize giveaways of T-shirts, balls, jerseys and more. Break out your board shorts, and don't forget lots of sun block. The tournament begins at 8 a.m., and admission is free for spectators.
