Space Invasion

Every year, the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington Boulevard) hosts a tour of local artists' working spaces, inviting the public to view how the other half lives. This can go one of two ways: Most of the time, civilians are fascinated by studios and working spaces, but sometimes non-artist types find themselves relieved to live in relatively spacious, clean homes not surrounded by stuff, stuff and more stuff. Artists of note include residents of the Luminary Center for the Arts, local favorites Firecracker Press, Kung Fu Chicken and Rad Lab. This year, CAM has upped the ante significantly, with an Open Studios BBQ and Bike Tour. Big Shark Bicycle Company will sponsor and guide the two-wheeled trek through the studios beginning at 10 a.m. Ride back to the museum for a post-tour barbecue at 4 p.m., complete with pulled pork from Pappy's Smokehouse and a DJ set from 88.1 FM KDHX's Keith Dudding. For specific studio locations and details, call 314-535-5660 or visit www.camstl.org.
