Step to It

Stepping, a type of synchronized dance where your hands and feet bring the beat, is a skill that leaves spectators in awe and deserves to be seen and celebrated. Tonight at 6 p.m., area fraternities and sororities bring their A-game to the annual Midwest Marchdown Scholarship Step Show at the Pageant (6161 Delmar Boulevard; 314-726-6161), hosted by the Alpha Eta chapter of historically black fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha. Though the show is being held in the name of education (proceeds benefit college scholarships for local high school seniors), there will be a special Winner Takes All step-off in which the top sororities and fraternities compete to win a $2,000 cash prize. The event is open to all ages, but those who have seen Spike Lee's classic School Daze know that step shows are a serious social affair -- mean mugging with your sorority sisters is optional. Tickets are $18 to $28, and for more information visit
