Though the '60s are long over, the Beat tradition continues to inspire many writers and performers from all generations and backgrounds.
ROCKPILE, a national poetry and music tour created by San Francisco Beat poets David Meltzer and Michael Rothenberg, aims to carry on this tradition. In each city on the tour, Meltzer and Rothenberg have joined forces with local poets and musicians to create a unique experience for each audience. Tonight at 7:30 p.m., the ROCKPILE tour visits its final stop, the Regional Arts Commission (6128 Delmar Boulevard; 314-863-5811). In addition to ROCKPILE's own crew member Terri Carrión, St. Louis talents Shirley LeFlore, Michael Castro, Philip Gounis, Jason and the Beast, and Howard Schwartz will read their own work to the musical accompaniment of David Jackson, Zimbabwe Nkenya, Dave Black and Bob Malone.
