Stuffed to Bursting

The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington Boulevard; 314-535-4660 or www.camstl.org) ushers in the new year with a host of shows in and on every corner of the building. Joyce Pensato's demented, graffiti-style pop-culture icons (in I Killed Kenny) and the hilariously absurd prints and works on paper of Readykeulous by Ridykeulous: This is What Liberation Feels Like (curated by Nicole Eisenman and A.L. Steiner) dominate the main gallery. Nathan Cook and Andrew James alter the elevator and the front hallway, respectively, with their sound-based installations for the Audible Interruptions series, while the beautifully postmodern, hyper-colorful abstract video art installations of Takeshi Murata's Street Views are projected on the front facade of the museum. All of these shows open with a free reception at 7 p.m. Friday, January 24. The shows remain up through Sunday, April 13, and CAM is open Wednesday through Sunday; Admission is $3 to $5, and free on Wednesday and Saturday.
