Mary Poppins' "spoonful of sugar" rule really applies to lots of things in life. Don't want to go to the office today? Make lunch plans with a friend, so at least one hour of your shift will be enjoyable. Not in the mood to cook dinner tonight? Buy some chocolate-chip cookies to eat while you prep. Have to run a bunch of boring errands on a beautiful Saturday? Make plans for a pit stop at the mall to treat yourself to a new pair of shoes. See? These spoonfuls all can brighten even the lamest of circumstances. And if you're tired of watching ridiculous reality TV, brighten up your outlook of humanity and head to the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; www.fabulousfox.com) for the very sweetest spoonful of them all: the stage production of Mary Poppins! Spend some time with the magical nanny, and hum along with all of the songs you know and love from the 1964 movie, including "Let's Go Fly a Kite," "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and, of course, "A Spoonful of Sugar." The touring production umbrellas into St. Louis on Thursday, August 13, and departs Sunday, August 30.
