Sweeter than Figgy Pudding

There are many holiday-themed and seasonal-music performances to choose from; it really is the most wonderful time of the year if you love Christmas carols. But how many Christmas programs promise the involvement of chipmunks, a buxom Southern belle and a Hallelujah Chorus performed by monks who will keep their vows of silence intact? There is only one: the Holiday Hit Parade, courtesy of the Gateway Men's Chorus. The GMC mixes the standards with fresh takes on some of the hipper Christmas tunes, and further spikes the tuneful eggnog with a great deal of humor. Additionally, the GMC gleefully encourages audience participation; nothing beats a good, old-fashioned Christmas sing-along, as you'll discover at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday (December 11 and 12) at the Edison Theatre on the Washington University campus (6445 Forsyth Boulevard; 314-935-6543 or www.gatewaymenschorus.org). Tickets are $20 to $25.
