Take A Walk, Help A Cat

We've always been totally flummoxed as to why, since they're quite clearly loving and loveable creatures, but cats are still routinely mischaracterized as being aloof and unaffectionate. Their human advocates have to stand up for them more often than is the case with dogs. Elizabeth Frick is one of those boosters. She started her kitty-centric nonprofit organization, Tenth Life Cat Rescue, in January of 2009 after moving here from Chicago. "St. Louis needed something [for cats] because dogs tend to get the spotlight here. Cats are incredibly misunderstood and underrepresented in our city," Frick says. Tenth Life depends on donations and volunteers to fund and carry out its vital work, but fun is also a big component of its M.O. Now if you're looking for a healthful good time and to help Tenth Life out too, show up at the Sons of Rest Pavilion in Tower Grove Park (4256 Magnolia Avenue) today at 9 a.m. and take part in the Hissin' Hustle 5K & Catwalk. Entrance fees are $25 for the 5K run and $15 for the one-mile walk; all the proceeds benefit Tenth Life's invaluable work for our whiskered buddies.
