Take It Inside

As those sold-out international friendlies between European soccer giants have proven, St. Louis still has an insatiable appetite for the beautiful game. While a standard-issue professional team remains elusive, we do have a brand-new Major Indoor Soccer League Team once again: The St. Louis Ambush is in the early stages of its inaugural season. Indoor soccer uses five players and a goalkeeper playing on a hockey-rink sized field of synthetic turf (the new MISL-turf), surrounded by hockey's familiar dasher boards, which are in play. The combination of field size, containing walls, free player substitutions and ten players attacking and defending results in high-scoring games and rapid-fire action. If you fondly remember the old Steamers, you'll feel right at home here; if you're new to the sport, you're in for a treat. The St. Louis Ambush take on the Syracuse Silver Knights at 3:35 p.m. at the St. Charles Family Arena (2002 Arena Parkway, St. Charles; 636-896-4200 or www.familyarena.com). Tickets are $15 to $47.
