Take Me Out to the Eugene

We'd like to feign a complete disinterest in baseball, just so we don't look so behind the times about the opening of the Eugene Field House & Toy Museum exhibit Baseball: Off the Field. "Base-balls?" we'd muse. "What is this 'base-balls'?" But the fact is, we're nuts like a squirrel with a mouthful of cashews about baseball, and we have no excuse for not mentioning Baseball: Off the Field, which opened April 10, before now. Oh, wait — it's because we've been watching all those GameCast broadcasts of American League games at work; that's why we forgot to say something about this collection of memorabilia and bric-a-brac. Everything from autographed balls (Stan Musial, Albert Pujols) to vintage player cards to actual seats from the long-gone Sportsman's Park (two stadia ago, now) are on display. The Eugene Field House is located at 634 South Broadway and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
