Takin' It to the Streets

Have you contracted World Cup fever yet? If not, get a good dose of the stuff today at the St. Louis Roadies Street Soccer Tournament. This four-on-four, street soccer spectacular commandeers an entire city block for its pitch -- and the Amsterdam Tavern (3175 Morganford Road; www.ppcsinc.org) is bang in the middle of that block. That's convenient, because not only is the Amsterdam a stronghold for the beautiful game, it's also a tavern (the clue is in the name). That means drinks will be close at hand for spectators. Games start at 11 a.m., and registration fees are $250 for a team, which can number up to ten people; plan your substitution strategy accordingly. Proceeds benefit the Peter & Paul Community Services' Sports for Social Change program. Admission for spectators is free, but bring money for refreshments.
