Taste the Neighborhood

We can tell just by looking at you -- you're woefully underprepared for March 1 Mardi Gras debauchery. Blame it on the Olympics, the phases of the moon, the weather, the boss -- doesn't matter. You need to get your party pants on, and fast. Fortunately, this weekend's Taste of Soulard should help you laissez les bons temps rouler. Essentially a freestyle pub crawl, this eating-and-drinking extravaganza offers a sampling of some of the sights and sounds and sips and such that will be flowing like hurricanes (the drinks, not the weather events) through the neighborhood's streets during the big event next weekend. To take full advantage of the Taste's tastes, purchase a $25 ticket booklet, good for six food samples and one Southern Comfort drink, and head on down to Soulard from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (February 22 and 23). Booklets are available at participating establishments -- which include Hammerstone's (2028 South Ninth Street), Molly's in Soulard (816 Geyer Avenue) At www.mardigrasinc.com, you can find out more information, including a full list of what's on the menu.
