Once a year, the city is inundated with storytellers from far and wide. The reason is the St. Louis Storytelling Festival, which celebrates the oldest form of human entertainment, oral storytelling. The event actually begins on Friday, April 29, and takes place throughout the city and St. Charles county. But today, at 12:15 p.m. at the J.C. Penney Conference Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-5699 or www.umsl.edu/storytelling), you can enjoy a sneak preview of what's in store at the final presentation of the Monday Noon Series, Keep the Sparks Flying. A local storyteller will provide an hour's worth of yarns, and admission is free — just like it was all those years ago around the campfire.
