Luisa and Matt are a young couple in love. Their only obstacles to wedded bliss are that their fathers despise one another, and that one night some men come to abduct Luisa. But Matt fights them off, and in gratitude, Luisa's father Bellomy makes up with Matt's father Hucklebee and permits the two lovebirds to wed. Now everything's perfect — except Matt and Luisa discover that they maybe don't love one another as much as they loved forbidden fruit. Young people enjoy making life dramatic and difficult for themselves, don't they? In this case, they come by it naturally: Bellomy and Hucklebee knew all along their kids were in love, but manufactured conflict so the kids would think they had to be romantic and meet secretly. Everybody's life is now a shambles — what comes next? In The Fantasticks, you just have to "Try to Remember that Time in September." The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis closes out its season with The Fantasticks on the Browning Mainstage of the Loretto-Hilton Center (130 Edgar Road, Webster Groves; 314-968-4925 or www.repstl.org). The play is performed Tuesday through Sunday (March 17 through April 11) and tickets are $18 to $68.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: March 18. Continues through April 11, 2010
