Fresh off of his successful Edgar Allen Poe series with Vincent Price, director Roger Corman spearheaded the hippie-exploitiation movement with his film The Wild Angels, beating Easy Rider by three years. Corman followed it up with his 1971 film Gas-s-s-s, in which an accidental military gas leak wipes out everyone older than 25, and a band of hippies are free to travel cross-country on the ultimate trip. Cindy Williams (Shirley of Laverne & Shirley fame), Ben Vereen and Talia Shire star alongside psychedelic rockers Country Joe and the Fish, and a motorcycle-riding Edgar Allen Poe. The Webster Film Series presents Gas-s-s-s at 8 p.m. tonight at Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-968-7487 or Admission is $5.
