The Birth of A Legend

Everybody seems to know who Peter Pan is, but nobody knows where he came from. Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson (the latter hailing from the St. Louis area these days) devised an origin story for him in their bestselling novel, Peter and the Starcatchers. Rick Elice turned that book into a musical, which not only tells the story of the boy who would be Pan, but goes a long way toward explaining why we're still fascinated with the character even after 100 years. The short answer: Who doesn't dream of flying, and of never growing out of our sense of wonder? Peter and the Starcatcher plays at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday (March 7 through 9) at the Peabody Opera House (Fourteenth and Market streets; 314-241-1888 or Tickets are $27 to $92.
