The Guy Ain't Right in the Head

But his wallet's just fine, thanks

At first glance, Larry the Cable Guy appears to fill the "dumb one" role amongst his Blue Collar Comedy Tour compatriots. Slack-jawed and pandering, Larry has made a career out of fart jokes and suggestions as to what folks who don't appreciate his shtick can do to themselves. Lake Superior State University even placed his "Git-R-Done!" on its 2006 List of Banished Words. OK, the "dumb one" assumption holds true upon the second glance as well, but somewhere around the eighth or ninth subsequent take, a certain business sense becomes apparent. Larry's made a killin' off customized ringtones; his most recent album, The Right to Bare Arms, was No. 1 on the Billboard country charts and was nominated for the Best Comedy Album Grammy (results not available at press time); and the movie Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector hits theaters this spring. Sure he's dumb — dumb like a 'possum that gets the lid off those trash cans every damn time.

See Mr. the Cable Guy, Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White and Bill Engvall on their Blue Collar Comedy Tour: One for the Road, which yuks it up at 7:30 p.m. at the Savvis Center (South 14th Street and Clark Avenue). Tickets are $47.75 to $67.75 and can be purchased at the Savvis box office, by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 314-241-1888.
