PHILLIP HAMER/THE MUNY
The Muny is selling the Ferris wheel that appeared in All Shook Up.
So what if
NIMBYs blocked the Ferris wheel that was
once envisioned for the Delmar Loop? And why cry over the similar fate that befell
the one once planned for Downtown St. Louis?
You can now buy your very own Ferris wheel.
The apparatus in question was used on stage at the Muny for its recent production of
All Shook Up. It has five cars that can accommodate fifteen people, or a maximum of 6,000 pounds. It's "in good working order," the non-profit theatrical producer says, with "freshly powder coated seats and new upholstery."
Asking price? $15,000.
Tracy Utzmyers, the Muny's production manager, tells us that the Ferris wheel was originally built in 1972, but got a big spruce-up for its star turn in Forest Park, including a new axle, new wiring and fresh wheels (albeit used ones).
Wondering if your backyard has room enough? Utzmyers tells us the entire thing is sixteen feet high, nineteen feet long and eight feet long. But hey! It can be folded up to thirteen feet, five inches for transport. Total weight: About 8,000 pounds.
