The Nice Age

Halloween doesn't just have to be all about the witches, goblins, vampires or -- God forbid -- zombies. (And can we get a break from the zombie thing already? Thanks!) There's room at the table for a nice hirsute Ice Age contingent, too. Herd the kids and head on over to the Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue; 314-746-4599 or www.mohistory.org) for a Prehistoric Halloween Party, which takes place today from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The free event, dispersed throughout the museum, is a preview of next month's exhibit, Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age. Families will have a shot at winning exhibit tickets while the junior set can busy themselves crafting mammoth masks and mastodon puppets. Radio Disney will be there offering up prizes, music and games from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Kids can also register to win a trip to a northern kingdom called Chicago, a land of ice and snow -- i.e., hospitable habitat for wooly mammoths and mastodons.
