The Passion of the Musical

Before they hit it big with The Phantom of the Opera and Cats, Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice conceived the ground-breaking rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. Originally a concept album (that went to No. 1) based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, Superstar was expanded into a full-stage musical, and then translated into a big-screen hit starring Ted Neeley as Jesus and Carl Anderson as Judas. Now Neeley is back on the road as Jesus in the touring production that plays two shows only at Lindenwood's J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts (2300 West Clay Street, St. Charles; 636-949-4433 or www.lindenwood.edu/center). There's an 8 p.m. performance on Monday, December 21, and a 2 p.m. matinee on Tuesday, December 22. Tickets are $25 to $55.
