The Sweetest Thing

Trust, Ms. Day could barely achieve a level of sweetness more sugary than where she's at right now. She doesn't want to brag, but she's been donating money to all of her favorite causes, she's been spending some time volunteering, and she even helped rescue a dog on this past snowy Christmas morn (she's less-than-creatively dubbed him the "Christmas puppy"). But while she sure is sweet on the inside, she could be sweeter still, which is why you'll find her at Rockwoods Maple Sugar Festival, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rockwoods Reservation (2751 Glencoe Road, Wildwood; 636-458-2236 or See, at this outdoor event, she'll learn how to identify maple trees — which is of the utmost importance for what comes next — and then she'll receive instruction on how to get at the sap without hurting the tree, and she'll find out how to boil the sap down into something akin to sweet, edible gold. Attending the Maple Sugar Festival is free, as are the tasty samples, and if your raffle ticket is pulled, you could even leave the syrupy celebration with your very own tree-tapping kit! How sweet that would be?!
