Some people — no names, please — eat their Beefaroni right out of the can while hovering over the kitchen sink and consider themselves well fed. There are others, though, who believe that every meal is an occasion, and that a well-set table is as vital to the experience as actually eating the food. This category of fine diners would do well to visit
Setting the Mood: The Artful Table, the new exhibition at the Craft Alliance (6640 Delmar Boulevard, University City; or
www.craftalliance.org). Artists were challenged to create beautiful objects for the table setting, and they responded with a whimsical teapot disguised as tree stump complete with a bird's nest, sleek metallic tea infusers that look like scientific equipment, and a dazzling assortment of platters and chargers. There are even a pair of spoons inspired by the horseshoe crab that would really enhance the Beefaroni experience.
Setting the Mood: The Artful Table opens with a free public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 21.The table remains set through Sunday, July 11, and the gallery is open every day except Monday. Admission is free.
