Ms. Day has a friend who is all up on the pirate life. This chum can talk like a pirate, drink like a pirate, and even wear a shoulder parrot like a pirate. In fact, her pirate mimic is so spot-on that Day is almost convinced that this friend of hers is, in fact, a pirate — though Day has been to her childhood home, and it most certainly is not a ship of any kind. Perhaps the true test of pirateship will be seeing if this pal makes an appearance at the Pirate Scarefest, held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue; 314-746-4599 or www.mohistory.org). This free event features all manner of things enjoyed by pirates (and pirates at heart), including candy, hands-on activities and complimentary admission to Treasure! a new exhibit about sunken treasure chests and how to hunt for them, and also how to find and protect other booty, too. Day is guessing that drawing a map with a giant "X" marking the spot isn't the best way to keep the location a secret — but that seems to be the way of the pirates. Maybe her friend knows more about this...
