Thirsty Work

Charlie Engle, Ray Zaheb and Kevin Lin dream big: The trio planned a 111-day run that would take them through six countries, from one side of Africa to the other by way of the Sahara Desert. This was no fun-run or a lark. The run was intended to draw attention to the need for potable water in Africa, a mission which dovetails nicely with Engle's charitable organization, H2O Africa Foundation (www.h2oAfrica.org). Director James Moll documented the journey in the film Running Across the Sahara, which screens at 7:30 p.m. at the Plaza Frontenac Cinema. Engle attends the one-time screening and will answer questions about the run, the need for clean water and what it's like to run 42 miles a day through some of the most unforgiving terrain on Earth for three solid months. Admission is $25 to $35, and includes a DVD of the film.
