To Market!

A farmers' market is a wonderful thing, but many of them keep hours that conflict with certain lifestyles. If you're, oh, I dunno, the hard-drinkin' editor of a weekly newspaper who also fights crime in the wee small hours, those early Saturday morning markets may as well be on the dark side of the moon (the Pink Floyd one, not that Jovian moon where your secret base is located — be a pal and keep that last bit to yourself, mmm-kay?). This is where the Maplewood Farmers' Market comes in handy; the long-running gathering of growers and artisans takes place on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. at Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-241-2337 or www.schlafly.com). The time is most amenable, and the available produce varies but features necessities such as locally grown figs (Ivan's Farm), traditionally fashioned salume (Salume Beddu), baked goods (Black Bear Bakery) and fresh beer (Schlafly, duh). Admission is free.
Wednesdays. Starts: Aug. 11. Continues through Oct. 6, 2010
