Bottled up for thirteen years thanks to the 18th Amendment, beer was liberated from the bootleggers and speakeasies with the official repeal of the Prohibition Act on April 7, 1933. This Saturday Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-289-2337 or www.schlafly.com) honors the 75th anniversary of this great moment in American history with its Repeal of Prohibition Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Along with Schlafly's esteemed beer varieties, the liberated libation will be offered in more than twenty styles, including beers from Tennessee-based microbreweries Blackstone, Boscos and Yazoo. A ticket entitles the accompanying beer belly to a bottomless commemorative tasting glass and all are encouraged to swig along with the live music of Swing Deville. Food will be available at an additional cost to keep drinking hands steady. Tickets cost $25 in advance or $30 at the event.
