The primary purpose of our period-pretty historic buildings is to provide us with an idea of what our city was like long ago, what it felt like and looked like to walk our streets, and to offer an everyday glimpse through the eyes of St. Louisans who have gone before. That all changes when the holidays roll around. During the festive season, these restored treasures want to get all dolled up and get in on the fun, too, while still keeping it old-school, of course. From 3 to 8:30 p.m. during the St. Louis Holiday Historic House Tour: Stories of St. Louis' Christmas Past, you can explore a handful of our most beloved buildings, including the Eugene Field House & St. Louis Toy Museum (634 South Broadway), the Chatillon-DeMenil Mansion, the Campbell House Museum, the Old Courthouse and even the Missouri Botanical Garden's Tower Grove House & Museum Building (enter at 2201 Tower Grove Avenue). Hopping aboard the shuttle costs $30, and self-guided tours cost $20, plus you can eat a buffet dinner at Cafe DeMenil for $9.95 (the meal is served from 4 to 7:30 p.m.).
