Fashion doesn't only emerge from the coasts and reality TV competitions. Nope, sartorial skills can spring forth close to home, too, and from the unlikeliest of fabrics. The designers crafting pieces for the Garbage Bag Gala (and the models donning the disposables) certainly understand what it means to "make it work." Though these creatives will not be forced to piece together coffee filters or corn husks for this trip down the runway, they do have to transform duct tape and trash bags into wearable, stylish designs, all to raise awareness and cash for the Salvation Army’s services for the homeless. To join these designers and models in supporting the cause, head to the Moonrise Hotel (6177 Delmar Boulevard) at 7 p.m. Your $45 ticket, available through www.stlsalvationarmy.org, nets you eats, two drinks and admission to the fashion show. Additional drinks are extra, as is your hotel room, should you decide to stay the night. If you need a bit of an incentive, consider the fact that the Moonrise will donate $53 of your room fee to the Salvation Army’s shelter program -- talk about staying in style!
