Viva El Skippito!

There are a lot of patronizingly dull children's books out there, but Judy Schachner's Skippyjon Jones series ain't one of 'em. Skippyjon is an energetic Chihuahua with a fondness for silly wordplay and a love of adventure. Like most children, Skippyjon unintentionally worries/annoys his mother, Mama Junebug, with his antics, almost all of which begin in Skippyjon's prodigious imagination. The wonder perrito, as he terms himself, has tangled with bumblebees, a mummy, dinosaurs and even visited space, with a little help from his magic closet. Schachner visits St. Louis County Library Headquarters (1640 South Lindbergh Boulevard, Frontenac; 314-994-3300 or www.slcl.org) at 7 p.m. to discuss her latest book, Skippyjon Jones Class Action, in which the puppito attends dog school. Admission is free, and copies of Schachner's books may be purchased onsite through Pudd’nHead Books.
