Viva Mentors

Jul 5, 2006 at 4:00 am
Viva Vox is a local nonprofit organization that provides mentoring services to at-risk children through its IMAGINE Arts Mentoring Program (that's Integrated Mentoring through Artistic Guidance to Impact New Expression). The talents of the kids are on full display in the rock opera Viva Cadabra: Long Live Magic, which was written, produced and performed by apprentices of the IMAGINE program. Viva Cadabra receives its premiere performance at 7 p.m. at the Sheldon Concert Hall (3648 Washington Boulevard), but get there at 6 p.m. for the VIP party, which includes an art auction of works by kids in the program, their mentors and local artists, as well as a dance performance by DiaDie Bathily and Afriky Lolo. The Asylum Street Spankers round out the evening (see Critics' Picks for more on that). Tickets are $10 to $35, and proceeds directly benefit Viva Vox's programs.
