The wide world of sports is almost entirely ruled by men. We're not disregarding the W leagues and the "lady" high school teams (although many are quick to do exactly that), but the WNBA and LPGA are certainly not awarded the same prestige and admiration that's inherently offered to their male counterparts. The misconception that women are less aggressive, weak and dainty is a pervasive one, and the existence of roller derby proves it utterly false. Here we have a pugnacious and wildly entertaining spectator sport where the y chromosome takes a backseat to the ass-kicking "ladies" of the league. Watch as the Saint Lunachix battle the Twin City Derby Girls at 7 p.m., followed by a second bout between the
Arch Rival Roller Girl All-Stars and the Naptown Tornado Sirens. It all takes place at the Midwest Sport Hockey Arena (570 Weidman Road, Ballwin; 636-230-6466) on August 4. For more information or to purchase tickets visit
