If not even the bourbon in your flask can wash away the aftertaste of area poetry slams, then you'll want to cleanse your palate with some Noir at the Bar, where the words are served straight, no chaser. Tonight at 7 p.m. hard-boiled purveyors of pulp fiction gather at Meshuggah Cafe (6269 Delmar Boulevard, University City). Clayton Lindemuth reads from his novel Cold Quiet Country, a chilling revenge tale set in small-town Wyoming; Frank Wheeler Jr. spills the the beans on a sheriff moonlighting as muscle for the local drug trade in his country-noir The Wowzer; and Josh Woods picks something from The Book of Villains. Admission is free, and Subterranean Books will sell copies of the books suitable for autographing during the event. Visit www.subbooks.com for more information.
