Pets are wonderful companions to have around the house, but our four-legged friends can be put to work, too. Say, as coxswains. The annual
Paddle With Your Pooch competition, the dog-and-master boat race, returns to the Boathouse in Forest Park (6101 Government Drive) for its sixth year running. KMOX (FM 1120) personality Charlie Brennan serves as master of ceremonies and announces the event's three heats, which are preliminary races that qualify the top pairs for the final race. Obviously, the people will do the pedaling in those paddleboats, so the burden of victory is incumbent upon you. But your dog will enthusiastically support your efforts, as they are wont to do. An awards ceremony follows, which disburses prizes to both the people and the canines for their respective excellence. If you wish the enter, the cost is $30 per team (one dog and as many as three humans per boat), and admission is free for spectators. The races start at 12:30 p.m., but check with website at
www.boathouseforestpark.com or call at 314-367-2224 for updated information in case of inclement weather.
