QFest, St. Louis' lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and queer film festival, makes its triumphant return Sunday through Wednesday (March 15 through 18) at the Tivoli (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-995-6270). Twenty-three features and twelve short subjects explore the realities of living an alternative lifestyle in the 21st century. And then there's Jeffrey Schwarz's
Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon, which documents both the fantasy and the reality of gay life. Legendary gay porn star Jack Wrangler (neé John Stillman) ruled the '70s thanks to his hyper-masculine persona, good looks and cockiness (wink).
Kansas City Trucking Co. made him a superstar, but Wrangler made himself an actor. In the '80s he branched out into straight porn, and then stormed the legitimate stage in a series of cabaret shows and musicals — and wait till you meet his companion of 30-plus years, Margaret Whiting.
Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon screens at 9:30 p.m. Monday, March 16. Tickets are $8 to $10 per screening, and the full schedule is available at
